TOPIC: WORK AND EDUCATION
Topic presentation :
The topic “Work and Education” deals with education systems in France, Germany, Spain and Sweden and with job and work opportunities in these countries.
• By education systems, we mean subjects (Mathematics, Languages, Sports, Literature…), pupils’ involvement in class, teacher/pupils interaction….).
• By work/job opportunities, we refer to the required qualifications and skills for a job (degrees, work experience…) and the working conditions (salary, working hours…)
Our goal is to create interactions between the different pupils involved in the project. Thus, they will be able to understand the differences but also the similarities between the countries and they may use in their future professional life.
In the „Work and Education“ room, in May 2014 in Pullach, the students presented their countries’ school systems, had the chance to perform a job interview in English and take a test which proposed a career that could fit them. Furthermore, they were able to watch movies about different jobs filmed by the participants of Spain, Germany, France and Sweden.
The topic has been coordinated by the Lycée general Odilon Redon in Pauillac (France).
2012/2013, the 34 pupils involved were from a class of “Seconde” during “Accompagnement Personnalisé” (2 hour per week). In 2013/2014, 20 pupils from 3 classes of “première” joined the “Comenius Club” created in the Lycée.

PRESENTATION OF THE EDUCATION SYSTEMS
To start the project, pupils from French general school asked the other schools to prepare a presentation (PowerPoint) of their school systems (from the kindergarten until Secondary high school).
These presentations were shared during the first meeting in Pauillac (France)
During this meeting, it was decided to compare the different systems at 3 important step: 3 , 10 and 16 years old pupils. This would to be done in Sweden.
TYPICAL SCHOOL AGENDA FOR 3, 10 AND 16 YEARS OLD PUPILS
During the Karlstad meeting (Sweden), an exhibition was prepared to compare the typical school agenda for 3 different ages: the pupils realised that there are numerous similarities in the subjects learned and the way school is done but differences appear especially in high school.

COMPARISON OF AN ENGLISH COURSE (With and Without stereotypes)
During the meeting in Badalona (Spain), pupils wrote scenarios showing how pupils think a typical English course happens in France, Germany, Sweden and Spain and how it really is.
They did the videos during the meeting and it was shown during the final exhibition.
II/ YEAR 2013/2014: FOCUS ON WORK/JOB
At the end of the first year of the project, French pupils have proposed to focus on 7 jobs to compare them in the different countries. These jobs have been chosen because of their relationships with the 5 topics.
The jobs were :
• Administrative assistant
Two main outcomes have been made: a job posters’ exhibition and a Comenius TV news show.
1ST OUTCOME : JOB POSTERS’ EXHIBITION
Preparation work (October-December 2014):
The French pupils were responsible for the preparation work.
• Clemence and Camille for journalist.
• Andrea, Danielle and Paulina for meteorologist
• Marie, Pauline and Mathilde for policeman officer
• Elisa for stewardess (cabin crew)
• Lionel for doctor
• Elisa and Deborah for teacher
• Gwendoline and the 2nde GA pupils for the Administrative assistant
First, they made different researches on the jobs. They were looking for the most important characteristics to only write the essential.
The characteristics were:
• What is the job
• The skills you need to do that job
• The studies and the salaries
They used the internet and the French school library. They also wrote e-mails and made Facebook connections with pupils from the other schools to gather information about jobs in Germany, Spain and Sweden.
Second, they defined the common page framework for each poster (same king of writing, colors, size ….), printed the different pieces of information and they assembled all information to make 1 poster for each job and compare them. The posters’ decoration could be established to correspond to the theme of journalist.
Exhibition during the Pauillac Meeting in January 2014 (during the “Career and jobs event in the school”:
During the project meeting in France, the general school has organized its annual event to help pupils learn about jobs and higher education possibilities.
There were many different presentation and forums in French and the Comenius project had its own exhibition. You will find hereafter some pictures of this event.

2ND OUTCOME : CREATION OF A “COMENIUS TV NEWS REPORT” :
The concept of a “Journal TV Comenius” (our Comenius TV news report”)
The pupils proposed that each country prepare a sketch about a job written in a serious or comical way. This sketch would be included in a special TV news report which would be added together and shown during the Pauillac meeting.
Preparation work (October – January 2014)
The French pupils asked each country to make a video/sketch on a specific job: teacher and journalist for Germany, Policeman for Sweden, Journalist for Spain, Meteorologist and Cabinecrew for Lycée général France, doctor for lycée professionnel France.
Each country created the sketch scenario and the shooting before the meeting.
