Teenagers and media in Europe
The purpose of our project was to know the habits of European teenagers dealing with mass media: TV, radio, Internet and newspaper. Some of our hypotheses were: Do European teenagers still listen to the radio? How much time do they spend surfing on the Internet? Do they buy newspapers?
The people who will answer the questions are boys and girls between 15 and 18 years old from France, Sweden, Germany and Spain.
In order to get the information we needed we decided to create a survey. During our first meeting in France, we did a workshop to create it. All the students taking part in it agreed that the questions should deal with TV, radio, Internet and press. Once we decided it, each group of students wrote the questions for each topic. As a result we had the questionnaire below with several questions on each subject.

After finishing the questionnaire, we sent it to all the countries taking part in the Comenius. During our third meeting in Spain we analyse the data and we made a poster.
After some research we think that the general situation in Europe is the same everywhere, just a few teenagers are different, but in general, the answers are really similar in the four countries.
We would like to start talking about the Internet; in general, all the Europeans or at least German, French, Swedish and Spanish people use the Internet more than two hours a day, including of course the use of mobile phone. We like to use the Internet to chat, social media and music. The percentage of teenagers that use social networks it is almost a 95% which is really impressive. Our favourite browser is Google Chrome, and a lot of us think that we are Internet addicts. Finally, most of people said they shop on line regularly.
We can affirm that the Internet is the most common way to communicate among young European teenagers, because it allows you to communicate, to look for information and to be always in touch with your friends. The only point we must seriously take into account is that most teenagers think they are Internet addicts.
If we talk about TV, we like watching all kind of things like films, sports, soap operas and so on but we don’t really watch it as much as we use the Internet. We watch TV an average of 2 hours, except Sweden (1 hour). We watch it with our family, in the evening and we usually eat while watching TV. Moreover we prefer TV above radio. We watch quite a lot the TV in English except in France. Finally, Spanish and French people prefer going to the cinema instead of watching films at home. For Swedish and German is the opposite.
Although we prefer TV than radio, we like listening to the radio mainly to listen to music, so we can claim that we like radio for the music. We often listen to it in the car and in the morning or the evening, but we don’t spend all day listening to the radio.
After the radio we would like to talk about the oldest media diffuser, the newspaper. Unfortunately the teenagers don’t use to read newspapers but if they read them, the majority reads news or in the case of Spain, sports. In their family, the parents use to buy it every weekend.

From Monday 30th September to Friday 4th October, the Comenius students from France, Germany and Sweden came to Spain to celebrate the third meeting of our project Networks Uniting Europe, the aim of this project is finding links among countries who take part in the project. At 13:30, arrived the German group. Two hours later, the French ones were received in Barcelona. At night, Swedish people came.
On Tuesday morning, all pupils started working on different topics: literature, media, sports, education and nature. We also started practicing the flashmob. In the afternoon, we decided to visit Badalona’s beach and we did a sightseeing tour along the beach. Everybody was really excited, because these countries are not use to go to the beach as we do in Badalona. When the school activity finished, all the students together spent all the afternoon in the beach.
On Wednesday we went to Barcelona. In the morning, we visited Sagrada Família, an Antoni Gaudi’s building and then we visited Park Güell. We spent some hours there and we also had lunch, a picnic provided by our families. Finally, we got on the underground to go to Les Rambles and everybody had free time. That way, everybody could go wherever they wanted to go.
On Thursday, the last full day in Spain, we finished the work we were doing on Tuesday dealing with different topics. Afterwards we went all together to the school’s auditorium to perform the flashmb. After the break, we decided to do a photo rally around Badalona about the topics we were working on. At half past eight, we did a share dinner. The school families brought some food. Everything was really tasty and our guest students enjoyed it. Finally we dance our flashmob, a nice way to finish the event.
Finally, on Friday we said goodbye to the German, French and Swedish people and we concluded the Comenius project in Spain with a lot of hugs, kisses and above all tears. We enjoyed it so much! We want to say to all the students, teachers and families:

Last week from 22nd to 26th July the German people have passed their so called “Forumstage”.
During the “Forumstage” every class has to work out a project over the whole week and present it to the others on Friday.
This year our Motto has been Networks uniting Europe.
Therefore every class had to choose a topic which has something to do with Comenius.
A fith class for example has written their own play.
A tenth class has faced terms with different meanings in other languages in this case German, French, English, Swedish and Spanish.
